W czasie mojej ostatniej bytości w Kalifornii miałem okazję podjąć w antykwariacie prezentowaną niżej książeczkę, którą gorąco polecam wszystkim zainteresowanym finezją jako taką. Wydany oryginalnie w roku 1922 przez “Women’s Institute of Domestic Arts & Sciences” “Ribbon Trimmings, A Course in Six Parts” to podręcznik dla panien prezentujący niesłychanie szeroki wachlarz ozdób ze wstążek wraz z dokładną instrukcją ich wykonania. Jedyne co mogę powiedzieć na niekorzyść tego reprintu to fakt iż niezwykle delikatne ilustracje powiększone czy też potraktowane brutalnym rastre straciły wiele ze swego wdzięku – niezależnie od tego jest to bajka, która przypomniała mi bardzo (dla mnie przynajmniej) interesujące prace Iwo Rutkiwicza prezentowane na wystawie “Polimerowy Weekend” w Galerii Laboratorium czy Scenie 2000 w CSW. ////// Durante mi ultima estancia en California tuve la oportunidad de adquirir de segunda mano el libro presentado abajo el cual recomiendo a todos interesados en la finura como tal. “Ribbon Trimmings, A Course in Six Parts” editado originalmente en el ano 1922 por “Women’s Institute of Domestic Arts & Sciences” es un manual instructivo para las senoritas dedicado enteramente a la exploración de las creaciones fantásticas basadas en el trabajo con listón. Lo único que puedo mencionar en contra de esta reimpresión es la falta de cuidado técnico en cuanto a la reproducción de los originales ilustraciones las cuales a la hora de ampliarlas (o debido a la aplicación de una trama demasiado gruesa) perdieron gran parte de su encanto – independientemente de lo mencionado el libro sigue siendo un verdadero cuento de hadas. Este viaje al país de los ornamentos y rosetas me ha hecho recordar unas piezas bastante peculiares de Ivo Rutkiewicz presentadas en las exposiciones “Polimerowy Weekend” (Galería Laboratorium) y Escena 2000 (Centro de Arte Contemporáneo) en Varsovia hace ya varios anos. I can recommend it strongly to all interested in finesse itself. Edited originally in 1922 by Women’s Institute of Domestic Arts & Sciences” “Ribbon Trimmings, A Course in Six Parts” is a very rich instructive manual with dozens of designs of wildest ribbon fantasies you can imagine. The only thing I can said against this reprint is a certain lack of attention to the illustrations that lost a lot of they charm due to brutal prepress treatment – anyway event with such faults this book is a real fairytale. This trip to marvelous land of ornaments and rosettes made me remember very interesting pieces of Ivo Rutkiewicz that he presented some years ago at the exhibitions “Polimerowy Weekend” (Laboratorium Gallery) and Scene 2000 (CCA Ujzadowski Castle) in Warsaw, Some of them you can see at his page.
